Burglar Alarms

Investing in a quality burglar alarm system is a good option for added commercial and industrial security. In Houston, it provides proven theft deterrence when compared to facilities without an alarm system. Taking the time to understand the types of security alarm systems available and how they will improve security is important. At AlarmVision we help in the education process so you can select the right system, equipment and monitoring service to meet your needs and budget.

The purpose of an alarm system is to detect unauthorized entry into a protected premises, or part of the premises. Once the system has detected unauthorized entry, an electronic signal or video is transmitted to the central station. The transmission is processed by a trained central station operator by placing a call to those on the emergency call list first. If the security center’s operator does not receive the proper passcode or does not receive an answer, the applicable police department or responding party is notified for response. In addition, systems are often preprogrammed to activate on-site sirens and flashing strobe lights that alert of a break-in.

Our state of the art security center is monitoring your business for intrusions. We are watching 24 hours a day, every day, alerting the police if something goes wrong and you cannot be contacted.

Two Types of Burglar Alarm Systems

Sensor Alarm System

The sensor alarm system is by far the most common alarm system installed in Houston today. A control panel operates the functioning of the alarm system and communications to the central station. Usually a keypad entry arms and disarms the system. Door sensors, motion detectors, photoelectric beams, duress buttons and glass break sensors are typical devices that transmit signals to the control panel and ultimately to the central station.

Strength: Price, local siren activation on alarms, offsite signal monitoring

Weakness: Lack of burglary-in-progress verification. Due to excessive false alarms and extremely low criminal apprehension rates, it receives the lowest level of Houston police emergency response.

Video Alarm Systems

Getting a top priority police response is the goal of any alarm system. A fast police response helps to limit losses and catch criminals in the act. Video alarm technology is the answer for an effective alarm system.

The video alarm system incorporates the strength of alarm sensor technology with the added technology of video. Once an alarm is activated, a video of what tripped the alarm is immediately transmitted to the central station. The operator views the video to verify a burglary in progress or to establish that false alarm has occurred.

AlarmVision Offers Four Types of Video Alarm Systems

  • Wireless, Motion Activated
  • Sensor Activated
  • Analytics Activated
  • Thermal Activated

Each type of Video Alarm System is well suited for a specific application. We help you determine which video alarm system is the best fit for your business.

Strengths: Video verification of alarm events to determine unauthorized activity or burglary in progress. A virtual security guard service for indoor and outdoor applications. Generates a top priority emergency response by the Houston police department. A lower price and quick return on investment when compared to a security guard service. Video alarm technology can integrate with many existing camera systems.

Weakness: Priced higher than a sensor alarm system. Advanced level of technical expertise required to design, install and monitor the system.

AlarmVision is the trusted provider of video alarm security systems and sensor alarm systems.

Alarm System Components

System Control Panel

Control Panels vary greatly and the type used for your premises will ultimately depend on the functions you need the system to perform, both now and in the future. While control panels vary with complexity and functions available, they all share a common function which is the ability to allow the user to arm or disarm the system, or parts of the system.

Systems can be armed from a keypad, keyfob or on schedule. The smartphone app is the newest way to arm/disarm a system and be aware of the system’s status and activity.

Passive Infra Red Sensor

Passive Infra-Red (PIR) is a successful detection technology, providing an most economical means of intrusion detection. PIRs have been developed into an effective detection technology and are commonly found connected to most alarm systems. PIR sensors are usually installed in a stable environment, such as an office or showroom and are not designed to function in windy or unstable areas.

Dual Technology Sensors

Dual technology sensors combine a PIR Sensor with the added technology of using a microwave detector. Microwave detectors respond to a Doppler shift in the frequency of the reflected energy by a phase shift, or by a sudden reduction of the level of received energy. Dual technology sensors can be installed in harsher environments such as factories, warehouses or storage building where wind, insects and rodents may cause a standard PIR Sensor to send a false alarm.

Magnetic Reed Switch Sensors

Reed switch sensors are magnetic switches which are generally used to detect the opening of doors. Reed switch sensors can be used to provide perimeter protection of a site and are available in many different forms. Magnetic contacts can be surface mounted, hidden within a door frame or heavy duty versions are available for overhead roll up doors or outdoor gates.

Glass Break Detectors

Glass break detectors are used for internal perimeter building protection. Glass break acoustic detectors are mounted in close proximity to the glass panes and listen for sound frequencies associated with glass breaking.

Photoelectric Beam Systems

Photoelectric beam systems detect the presence of an intruder by transmitting visible or infrared light beams across an area, where these beams may be obstructed. If the beam is disrupted, an alarm will activate.

Duress or Panic Buttons

Pressing this devise alerts the central station of an emergency situation that requires immediate response by the police.
